"I started as a Silver student for three of Brian’s classes just a few month ago (April 2023) - Fundamental Figure Drawing, 20 Minute-Heads - Structure and Intro to Figure Invention. I was not completely new to drawing and already had some experience with other online art classes, but when I found out about Foundation Art School on social media I immediately felt it was the right fit for me. Each class is 5 weeks long and structured in such a way that the week after the first demo you will build upon it in the next one. Brian’s teaching experience and expertise definitely weighed in the balance.
As you can see from my previous drawings, I was only drawing upper bodies, mainly head and torso, and felt I did not know arm and leg anatomy enough to be able to confidently draw/construct full figures. I was also struggling to draw believable faces on those figures too so I was not adding any at all… And then Brian showed me the way.
One of the many good things about Foundation Art School is having access to Brian’s critiques of other students and draw overs (on top of many reference pictures and drawing pics from the demos!) so that you can have references points. That way, you can compare your work with other students’ and consequently self-correct yours and not repeat the same mistakes over and over. Brian’s demos are more than just following along as you have access to his thought process and explanations while he is drawing.
I also have access to the Discord community where I share my finished pieces and studies and get other people’s take on them. It is an additional energy and motivation boost to have Brian’s support, pieces of advice and opinion on your drawings. Lastly, with regular practice, by applying Brian’s methodology and at the same time finding my own, I could see a drastic improvement in my art. I guarantee you will see that too!
