20 Minute Heads: Structure

dates: 10 / 06 / 2022 - 11 / 03 / 2022

Each class will demo several 20 minute head drawings.

In this class, you will learn:

  • Learn speed and efficiency
  • Different head types
  • 3 heads per demo
  • Pros and cons of Reilly and Loomis

The underlying structure of the head is a critical part of head drawing. After learning about the structure of the head in the first week, students will then apply that information through a series of 20 minute head drawings. Each week will explore different head types and likenesses along with how to approach drawing the head from various angles. Repetition is an important part of the learning process and this class will allow students to repeatedly apply the structural forms of the head to a wide range of head types. The final week will help students learn how to simplify this information so that shadow mapping can be applied within the first 20 minutes of a drawing. Each class will demo several 20 minute head drawings. The emphasis will be on proportional measurements and structure, then we'll work our way up to shadow mapping and ultimately how to skip steps and get more done in 20 minutes.
